Nestled in the heart of Leeds and steeped in history is Aladdin’s Cave – a quirky, one-of-a-kind jewellery shop selling unrivalled statements pieces.

The family-run business was founded in the early 1980s and has grown in popularity over the years – it has become famous for its extensive range of one-off items, excellent customer service and knowledge in sourcing and selling antique and unique jewellery.

Today, the shop in the much-loved Queen’s Arcade in Leeds City Centre is run by Jessica Spencer and her mother Roberta Swift, the daughter of the founder Peter Isaacs, who was well-known for his expertise in the jewellery trade.

Jessica enjoys travelling to find “hidden treasures” that she sources with her eye for detail. She has a passion for art deco style items and loves exploring and finding what she describes as ‘hero pieces’ at auctions and fairs across the UK.

Since she was a little girl, Jessica has always been inspired by jewellery in all its form, but particularly vintage pieces. She visited Aladdin’s Cave regularly when her grandfather and auntie were running it. In 2000 Jessica’s parents took over the shop and Jessica joined the family business in 2003.

Following the pandemic, Jessica launched the online shop in June 2020, selling to customers across the world. She is heavily involved in the online side of the business and manages the marketing, social media channels and creates inspiring content to display the pieces available to buy.

Both the physical and online shop are bursting with the kind of jewellery you wouldn’t find on the high street. This has proven very popular with customers looking for unique gifts for their loved ones, or special items, such as engagement rings for antique lovers.

Due to the rise in sustainable fashion, Aladdin’s Cave’s client base is evolving to welcome a younger customer profile searching for one-off items that aren’t mass-produced.

Having built a reputation over the years for providing an extensive range of jewellery and excellent, one-to-one customer service, Jessica and Roberta continue on their mission to source statement pieces that stand the test of time.
