This is a gold and coral mourning brooch, crafted in the Georgian era, circa 1830s. The brooch consists of six carved coral pieces which have gold edging. They surround a rectangle piece of gold in the centre, which has braided hair under glass.
The perfectly braided and preserved hair is a feature of Georgian Jewellery and I love the attention to detail in such a tiny brooch. It is so delicate and I’m sure a fitting tribute to the loved one who past.
