Description

This Charles Horner silver brooch is hallmarked for Chester 1918 and set with a bezel-set marbled green glass cabochon. Crafted in sterling silver, the brooch features an oval domed glass panel framed by a rope-twist border. As a Chester 1918 Charles Horner brooch, it offers clear early 20th century provenance and documented maker attribution. Designed as a traditional pin brooch, it sits neatly and fastens with a secure hinged fitting.

Design & Craftsmanship

The oval cabochon displays internal marbling in varying shades of green, creating depth beneath the polished surface. The glass is smoothly domed and securely held within a plain silver bezel setting. A twisted rope border surrounds the mount, which adds texture without overpowering the centre. The reverse carries clear Chester hallmarks for 1918 alongside the Charles Horner maker’s mark. The solid back plate and integrated pin mechanism reflect the practical, well-balanced construction typical of Horner’s work during this period.

Why We Love This Brooch

This Charles Horner silver brooch combines strong colour with disciplined design. The marbled glass gives visual interest, yet the oval format keeps it refined. Because it is fully hallmarked and dated, it provides certainty for collectors. It feels substantial without being heavy, which makes it reliable for regular wear.

Styling Ideas

This vibrantly coloured brooch suits someone drawn to collectible antique silver with bold but controlled colour. It works well on structured coats, knitwear, or tailored jackets. The green glass stands out particularly well against darker fabrics. At the same time, the traditional oval shape keeps the look classic rather than theatrical. It would appeal to collectors of Chester silver or early 20th century British jewellery.
