This Victorian stick pin dates to the late 19th century and was designed to be worn on a cravat, tie, or lapel. Crafted in warm yellow gold, the pin features a decorative shell motif finished in rich blue enamel and centred with a small natural pearl. As a result, it offers both subtle colour and refined period detail.

The jeweller carefully modelled the shell head with radiating fluted lines, which frame the enamel beautifully. Deep cobalt blue enamel fills the recessed areas and creates strong contrast against the gold. Importantly, the enamel remains vivid in colour, demonstrating the quality of Victorian workmanship. At the centre, a single pearl adds softness and balance. Meanwhile, the slender gold pin stem features a gentle twist detail that strengthens the pin while adding visual interest.

Historical Note

During the Victorian period, jewellers often used shell motifs to reference beauty, travel, and the natural world. Pearls also played an important role in gentlemen’s jewellery at this time. They conveyed refinement and restraint rather than excess, which suited formal accessories such as stick pins.

Styling Ideas

Traditionally, gentlemen wore stick pins with cravats or ties. However, this unisex antique piece also works well on a lapel, scarf, or hat. Because of its modest size and elegant design, it pairs easily with both period and modern styling.

Why We Love This Pin

This Victorian stick pin feels balanced and practical. The enamel remains strong, the pearl provides a quiet focal point, and the design wears well. Overall, it is a well-made Victorian accessory that still feels relevant today.
