This striking David Andersen butterfly brooch is a vivid red enamel butterfly, made in Norway during the 1950s. Crafted in sterling silver and finished with translucent guilloché enamel, it’s a bold and joyful piece from one of Scandinavia’s most celebrated silversmiths.

The butterfly’s wings are coloured in rich crimson with deep ribbed detailing beneath the glossy enamel. Black and white accents create contrast and character, while the delicate antennae complete the design. Because the brooch is made from .925 silver, it has both quality and substance.

David Andersen founded his workshop in Oslo in 1876. However, the enamel butterflies became iconic from the mid-20th century onwards and this piece is a beautiful example. The back is stamped DAVID-ANDERSEN NORWAY STERLING 925S, a clear and authentic mid-century mark.

In addition, the brooch still has its original rollover clasp and secure pin fitting. You can wear it on a lapel, scarf, or even a bag. It’s lightweight but eye-catching, perfect for everyday wear or special occasions.

Although nearly 70 years old, the brooch feels modern and full of life. Therefore, it’s a wonderful gift for vintage lovers, collectors of Scandinavian design, or anyone who treasures handmade jewellery with history.

Why we love this brooch

We love this David Andersen butterfly brooch because it’s full of joy and colour. The red enamel glows in the light, and the butterfly shape feels timeless. It’s a small piece with a big personality—and a beautiful slice of design history.
