Description

This antique silver and enamel butterfly brooch dates to the early 20th century, circa 1910 to 1920. It is crafted in sterling silver with translucent blue enamel across the wings and deeper blue enamel to the body and bears the maker’s mark for John Atkins & Sons, a company famous for silver butterfly brooches.

Why We Love This Brooch

This vibrant blue enamel brooch has the delicacy and character associated with early 20th-century enamel jewellery. The cool blue palette is particularly attractive, while the detailed wing decoration gives the piece strong visual interest at close range. John Atkins & Sons produced a number of silver and enamel butterfly brooches during the Edwardian and early Art Deco years, making pieces of this type especially appealing to collectors of antique enamel jewellery.

How to Style

This antique silver and enamel butterfly brooch will appeal to someone who loves antique jewellery with a connection to nature. It can be worn on a jacket lapel, knitwear, a scarf, or displayed as part of a brooch collection. Because the design is light and open, it works equally well as an occasional piece or as an antique accent. Its blue enamel also pairs easily with silver jewellery and cooler-toned fabrics.
