Description

A striking 1920s Egyptian Revival scarab beetle brooch in gilt metal, decorated with vivid red, turquoise and black enamel. The central scarab motif gives the piece its unmistakable Egyptian Revival character, while the winged elements create a balanced, highly decorative silhouette.

Design & Craftsmanship

The brooch centres on a raised scarab beetle, framed by stylised winged forms in coloured enamel. The turquoise, red and black palette is strongly associated with Egyptian Revival jewellery of the 1920s, when archaeological discoveries inspired bold decorative motifs across jewellery and fashion. The gilt metal setting has been carefully shaped to create depth around the beetle and wings, while the enamel adds crisp contrast and visual definition. The safety chain provides an additional practical feature for secure wear.

Why We Love This Brooch

This brooch has strong period character without feeling difficult to wear. The scarab design is instantly recognisable, yet the proportions remain neat enough for regular use. At the same time, the enamel colours give it enough presence to stand out on a simple jacket, knit or dress. Egyptian Revival jewellery is particularly appealing because it captures a very specific moment in early 20th-century design history.

How to Style

This Egyptian Revival scarab beetle brooch suits someone who prefers distinctive antique and vintage jewellery, especially symbolic or archaeological-inspired designs. It works particularly well on jacket lapels, coats, knitwear or scarves. Because the brooch includes a safety chain, it also feels practical for regular wear. The strong colour combination makes it easy to pair with neutral clothing, while collectors of Egyptian Revival jewellery will appreciate its decorative scarab motif.
