Victorian Diamond and Synthetic Ruby Ring

Description

An antique Victorian diamond and synthetic ruby ring. The ring is made up of a central synthetic ruby flanked by two old cut round diamonds. All the stones are claw set with the synthetic ruby in a basket setting. There is approx 0.50ct of total diamond weight between the two diamonds and the shank is 18ct yellow gold.

Synthetic rubies have been used in jewellery since the 1850s to produce less expensive pieces. These are not ‘fake’ stones but have a natural counterpart. A synthetic ruby has the same chemical composition as a natural ruby so looks almost identical to the naked eye.

This antique ring would make a fabulous antique engagement ring or dress ring and a more affordable option than a real ruby.
