Description
This Art Deco fire opal ring is crafted in 18ct yellow gold and set with an emerald-cut fire opal surrounded by old cut diamonds. Designed as a statement cocktail ring or alternative engagement ring, it showcases the bold geometry typical of the Art Deco period. The vibrant orange-red fire opal sits at the centre, while a halo of old cut stones frames it with soft sparkle. Opal is the October birthstone, which makes this ring especially meaningful as a birthday or anniversary gift. The strong rectangular lines and balanced proportions reflect classic 1920s–1930s design.
Design & Craftsmanship
The emerald-cut fire opal sits within a fine milgrain-edged frame that defines its angular outline. Surrounding it, old cut diamonds form a scalloped halo, each stone individually set to create texture and light movement. The diamonds show the slightly irregular faceting associated with hand-cut stones, which adds character rather than uniform brilliance. The setting rises slightly from the band, allowing light to reach both the opal and the diamonds. An 18ct yellow gold shank supports the platinum-topped setting, a common and practical feature of the period. As a result, the diamonds appear bright against the cooler metal, while the yellow gold band adds warmth.
Why We Love This Ring
This Art Deco fire opal ring makes an impact without feeling oversized. The fire opal delivers strong colour, yet the diamond halo keeps the design structured and refined. Because of its low-to-medium profile, it remains wearable for everyday use. At the same time, the 18ct gold construction ensures durability. It suits someone who appreciates Art Deco geometry but still wants warmth and colour.
Styling Ideas
This vibrant 1920s halo ring works beautifully as a unique engagement ring or a bold right-hand ring. It pairs well with simple gold bands, allowing the centre stone to stand out. Alternatively, it can anchor a curated vintage stack. This piece suits someone with confident, individual style and an appreciation for antique craftsmanship. It also makes a strong October birthstone gift with real presence.
