Description

This Edwardian diamond necklace is an impressive early 20th-century piece crafted in 15ct gold and platinum. The pendant is set throughout with old cut diamonds, arranged in an openwork fan-shaped design with a suspended diamond drop.

Design & Craftsmanship

The antique pendant combines a warm 15ct gold framework with platinum-faced diamond settings, a characteristic approach in fine Edwardian jewellery. Its open construction creates a light, lace-like appearance despite the substantial diamond coverage. Graduated old cut diamonds follow the curved outer edge, while smaller stones radiate from the open centre. Delicate diamond-set scrolls add further detail near the top.  The articulated lower drop introduces movement and allows the final diamond to catch the light independently. The old cuts have the broader facets and individual proportions associated with hand-cut antique diamonds.

Why We Love This Necklace

This is the type of Edwardian jewel that demonstrates why period craftsmanship remains so desirable. The substantial diamond presence feels impressive, yet the openwork construction keeps the pendant refined rather than heavy. Each old cut diamond has its own character, so the overall effect differs from the uniform appearance of modern brilliant-cut jewellery. The articulated drop also gives the piece movement when worn, while the precious metal construction has already demonstrated its longevity over more than a century.

How to Style

This Edwardian diamond necklace suits someone drawn to important antique diamond jewellery with a distinctive period design. It works particularly well for evening wear, weddings and special occasions, although the 18-inch chain also allows it to sit naturally with a simple neckline. The monochrome combination of diamonds and platinum-facing makes it easy to wear alongside both white and yellow metal jewellery. Therefore, it appeals equally to a dedicated antique collector and someone looking for a significant heirloom necklace that remains wearable today.
